Description
Prior to a performance at Bloomsday Oslo, Declan Gorman returns to Drogheda with his latest Joycean work-in-progress, 'When I Read the Dead' (extract from ongoing 'Epiphany' project). He shares the bill with 'The Four Mollies', Grainne Rafferty, Maria Clarke, Anne Nolan and Camilla Healy, who will give a choral reading of Molly Bloom's Soliloquy from Ulysses. Declan's latest work has an autobiographical dimension, beginning 1981 when he tumbled upon an English language copy of James Joyce's 'The Dead' in a library while a young emigrant in Munich. He reads the story in a German bar during his first Christmas away from home and is transported back to an Edwardian Dublin he never knew. Thus begins an aspiring but confused young writer's jouney into literature and self-awareness, as Joyce's majestic story of disappointment and epiphany comes to life in his imagination. The full work will be presented at Draíocht, Blanchardstown in December. Grab this chance to see it in development now - and relish also a staged ensemble reading by four noted local female performers of the erotic and earthy words of Molly Bloom, as she drifts towards sleep on a warm night in June 1904.
