    Description

    Stage Times

    8.45pm Bataa Jamaldor

    9.45pm Poor Creature

    With special guest, Bataa Jamaldor

Claims that music has reached its tipping point on sonic innovations were always wrongheaded and to demonstrate, you need look no further than the cosmic soil currently occupied by Poor Creature. Ruth Clinton (Landless), Cormac Mac Diarmada (Lankum) & John Dermody (La Jimmy Cake) apply a kaleidoscopic lens to songs of love, loss and the supernatural from the Irish and American traditions opening them up like a can of rainbows & reimagining them as sparse, psychedelic & propulsive while still holding tightly to the spirit & mythos of each song. This is Poor Creature’s debut headline show and in years to come you will treasure having caught them at a venue this intimate.

    Bataa Jamaldor

Although Bataa was born and raised in Mongolia's capital city Ulan Bataar, he spent part of his childhood with his grandfather in the countryside, far from UB's urban sprawl. Bataa's grandfather lived a nomadic life in a traditional Mongolia Ger (known as a yurt in the west). Around the fire In the evenings, a neighbour would entertain the community by singing and playing his horse head fiddle. Bataa became fascinated by the range of haunting and melodious tones that can be produced with just this seemingly simple instrument and the
    power of the human voice.

As a teenager, Bataa took music lessons and trained in the centuries old technique of throat singing, he shows exceptional talent and now many believe he has become a master of this skill

As can easily happen, the obligations of life got in the way, and Bataa qualified and began working as an Electrical Engineer. But the lure of music was too strong and he quit his job to focus on performing full time. He has played theatres, venues and festivals throughout Mongolia and now his plan is to take the ethereal sound of the Mongolia steppe round the world, in the hope of entrancing audiences, just as he was at his grandfather's fireside .
