Declan Lennon, better known as Krystal Klear, is an Irish-born DJ and producer currently based in London. His music is a mesh of House and Disco infused with the melody of R’n’B, influenced by the seminal styles of Larry Levan or Danny Krivit and the Body and Soul parties to Kerri Chandler or Patrick Adams.

The Krystal Klear project emerged from Dec’s love for rare old groove, from Salsoul to SOLAR, with every Teddy Riley record in between. Stints living in New York and LA saw nights of hedonistic clubbing and days spent seriously expanding his record collection, obsessively cataloguing the sounds and culture of the late ‘70s to late ‘90s, and combining his love for disco boogie, new jack swing and ‘90s house into a compelling concoction of danceable heartbreak.

Just as New York clubs inspired the renowned Tony Wilson to found the Hacienda on his return to the UK, so Dec subsequently found a fervent audience for his 1980s Big Apple sound in Manchester. The spirit of the city’s clubbing lineage still permeates the scene, having evolved from the Hacienda through similarly eclectically-minded nights like The Twisted Wheel and Electric Chair in the noughties, into a vibrant setting for Krystal Klear’s signature sound.

The 2010 release of his debut EP “Tried For Your Love” saw the title single immediately pushed by Benji B on Radio 1, with six straight weeks of airplay on the 1Xtra show. From there Krystal Klear went from strength to strength, gaining notoriety for high energy, genre-pushing DJ sets, and his ability to work dancefloors to sustained ecstatic frenzy.

In 2011 he graduated from the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid and solidified his presence in the DJ world with the release of a FACT mix, earning plaudits from such legendary tastemakers as Trevor Nelson, Jackmaster, Joy Orbison, Gerd Janson and house idol Kerri Chandler.

2012 saw Krystar Klear gigging tirelessly, adding a residency at the iconic Warehouse Project to his longstanding residency at Manchester’s revered Hoya:Hoya. He also joined Rinse FM as host of his own show, a slot he maintains to this day. His prominence then skyrocketed, cemented with releases on institutions such as All City, Rinse, Sony, Island, Kerri Chandler's Mad Tech and Floating Points Eglo Records. His prolific work rate garnered massive attention, with guest mixes on BBC Radio 1 for Benji B, Skream, Mary Anne Hobbs and Mistajam, along with online mixes for Fact, XLR8R, Truants and I-D. After the release of the highly popular ‘Addiction’ and show-stealing performances at Sonar and Electric Picnic, Krystal Klear went global with performances on both the East and West coast of America from everywhere from Fabric London to Moscow, to Singapore or even Space Ibiza for Felix The Housecat’s residency.

In 2013, Dec launched his own label, Cold Tonic, primarily as a platform for Krystal Klear releases that showcase the heavier, club-focused side of his musical palate, from the dancefloor conscious “Squad” to the infectious freestyle breakbeat inspired “Ca$h Champagne”. Along with performing and releasing his own work, Krystal Klear has produced remixes for an eclectic array of artists, proving his equally impeccable mainstream and underground sensibilities on work for such diverse talents as Seven Davis Jr., Donna Summer, Kelis and The Two Bears. His formidable body of remixes includes a lauded take on Sky Ferreira’s ‘Everything is Embarrassing’ and the Prince-styled swoon of Blood Orange’s ‘Champagne Coast’ for Domino records.

2015 has seen his star continue to rise, beginning with his inclusion in the infamous Panorama Bar (Berghain) NYE/NYD marathon set. A recent stay in New York as houseguest of the legendary Nile Rodgers has seen Dec produce a feature track on the new Chic album with Michael McDonald. The latest Krystal Klear releases, Ca$h Champagne and One Night Only, have found homes on major labels and both received Radio 1 Xtra’s A playlist.
