Plans have been made to develop the grounds which has become the home of the GAA in Great Britain.

It is also the home of Warwickshire GAA who have 3,000 members within the club.

The current grounds are set to be redeveloped as part of a motorway improvement scheme.

“As a boy I spent many happy years playing Gaelic football in Pairc na hÉireann,” Grealish said in a statement via Warwickshire GAA.

The skills I learned and the encouragement I received helped me become the player I am today.

Grassroots sports are so important for kids across the West Midlands.

Warwickshire GAA is at the forefront of making sure everyone from all backgrounds has the chance to play and participate.

I fully support the campaign to save Pairc na hÉireann.

When he was younger, the Euro 2020 runner-up played Gaelic football at the grounds before he was told to stop playing by his current club Aston Villa.

Grealish famously made seven appearances for Ireland at U21 level. He also played with the Ireland U17 and U18 sides before switching to England ahead in 2016.

“I played a lot of Gaelic football,” he told Sky Sports last September.

“It is rough I used to get whacked all the time, which helps me now being kicked a lot, Aston Villa told me to stop!”

Warwickshire GAA Chairman Michael Collins added on Grealish’s calls: “Planning permission has been deferred twice now and a further deferral or rejection would prove catastrophic for us.

“Any appeal process could take over 12 months to complete.

Highways England has stated that they will commence work immediately after the council’s 11 August planning meeting, regardless of the outcome.

Such a scenario would mean that we would be left with barely one full-size pitch and an uncertain future.

GAA President Larry McCarthy also said: “Pairc na hÉireann has been such an important facility for the GAA and the West Midlands community for many years.

“I am hopeful that the planning permission will be given on 11 August, and I look forward to visiting Solihull to see the new development in the near future.”

ENGLAND sensation Jack Grealish has lent his voice to a campaign to save a GAA pitch.

Pairc na hÉireann, the home ground of Warwickshire GAA in England’s West Midlands is fighting against having a relief road run directly through the site’s current pitches, clubhouse, and a memorial to deceased members.

The campaign wants to save the grounds and transform it into a modern state-of-the-art facility for grassroots sport.

Grealish played underage Gaelic football for Birmingham GAA club John Mitchel’s growing up.

The midfielder even scored a point in a half-time exhibition game at Croke Park as Dublin took on Kerry in the All-Ireland quarter-final.

The Aston Villa captain took the time from his post-Euros holiday and transfer saga to show his support for the campaign.

Monaghan and Tyrone will battle it out in this year’s Ulster Senior Football Championship final at Croke Park on Saturday afternoon.

Just like the Connacht decider last week, GAA headquarters hosts the Ulster final to facilitate greater crowd numbers.

It will be the first time in 15 years that the Ulster decider is played at Croke Park, with 18,000 fans set to be in attendance.

It is six years since Monaghan last lifted the Anglo Celt Cup, while the Red Hands’ last Ulster title win came in 2017.

Tyrone have made it to the decider at the first attempt since Mickey Harte’s departure as manager, beating defending champions Cavan before seeing off Donegal at the semi-final stage.

Meanwhile, Monaghan defeated Fermanagh and Armagh and come into the final as slight underdogs, with Tyrone the favourites in the betting to be crowned provincial champions.

The match will be shown live on RTE Two, with throw-in scheduled for 4pm.

Welcome
Good afternoon and welcome to our live blog for the Ulster Senior Football Championship final between Monaghan and Tyrone.

Croke Park hosts the Ulster decider, with 18,000 spectators set to be in attendance.

But that number is set to double for the All-Ireland football and hurling finals next month in a huge boost to GAA fans, while 24,000 will be present for the semi-finals, which begin next weekend.

The winners of this clash will face Kerry in the last four after the Kingdom hammered their neighbours Cork by 4-22 to 1-9 in last week’s Munster final.

That semi-final clash takes place in two weeks time, with Mayo to face the winners of Dublin and Kildare in the other last four tie.
