Description
With the Support of the SOLAS Mitigating against Educational Disadvantage Fund (MAEDF) 2021, the Waterford and South Kilkenny Branch of Down Syndrome Ireland is delighted to present a Behavioural Education Course for Staff involved in the care and education of Children and Adults with Down Syndrome.
The course will be delivered virtually via Zoom on Mondays.
Commencing Monday 17th January 2022 from 7.30pm to 8.30pm.
Places available for Staff in Pre-Schools, Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and any other settings.
The course will be applicable to all age groups.
Total Cost per participant = Eur 50 for four group webinars and one individual appointment
- Four online classes via Zoom
- One hour duration for each webinar
- Maximum of 10 participants
- Three Information Sessions
- One Question & Answer Session
- One Individual 45 minute Appointment with John via Zoom
Following the completion of the four group webinars, each participant will be able to book a One-to-One Zoom call with John Curran to discuss individual issues privately.
Parents Course Dates & Times:
- Monday 17th January 2022 = 7.30pm to 8.30pm
2. Monday 24th January 2022 = 7.30pm to 8.30pm
3. Monday 31st January 2022 = 7.30pm to 8.30pm
4. Monday 7th February 2022 = 7.30pm to 8.30pm

Following completion of the course, you will be asked to contact John Curran to arrange a date and time for one-to-one Zoom call.
What are the Aims of the Behavioural Course?
The aims of the DSI Waterford and South Kilkenny Behavioural Course are to provide Staff with the knowledge and confidence to:
- Recognise behavioural issues
- Identify the possible causes of behavioural issues
- Utilise tools and methods to help with behavioural issues
- Anticipate situations and events which may lead to challenging behaviours
- Advocate on behalf of the children in their care
What will be the focus of the Behavioural Course?
The course will focus on delivering information on and an understanding of the key areas involved in behavioural challenges which impact on an individual's growth and development including the following:
- How behaviour begins and develops overtime.
- Functional value of behaviour/s for an individual.
- How to understand and impact on behaviour including each individuals role (Adult-child)
- Re-entry and recovery post negative display.

Qualifications = B.Sc. Psychology and M.Sc. Applied Behaviour Analysis Psychology Society of Ireland
Based in Northern Ireland, John Curran provides a Practical support service that assists parents and professionals positively impact on individuals who challenge using behaviour.
